I have a possible solution for Jordan for Problem #1 (getting clarinets
to try out before purchasing)

If you know any clarinet professors at area universitys or
colleges they may be a great help for you. I know here at Ithaca
the professors were able to have a bunch of clarinets sent up to them
to try before purchasing. (I walked into a lesson this semester and
there were 12 clarinet cases in the studio!!!!) Now they had Buffet
R-13s, I don't know if that was all that they could get or if that
is what the people were going to buy- but it is worth looking into.
So there is my two cents-
