1) On Feb 1 Dan Leeson mentioned the Nature TV program called
"The Tree of Music" which would be aired on March 20th.
Well, PBS scheduling being what it is, the times vary:

Here in the Big Apple that program will be broadcast on
WNET (13) only on Saturday, 3-27, at 7 PM. On a neighboring
PBS station, WLIW, it will be shown on April 5th at 9PM
and on April10th at 3 PM.

The schedule adds: "Could the threat to the mpingo - the
tree of music - mean the end of beautiful music?"

2) I have been an almost silent lurker. I am a rank
beginner (actually, very rank). I'm a 67 yo retiree with
almost zero formal musical education, and with all of
6 months of very elementary clarinet lessons. Until I
decide to invest in a better clarinet I am playing a
metal H N White left over from the NYU marching band.

I find the list enormously instructive.
