Regarding the comments/questions about Rousseau's article: Saxophonists
try this sometime. If you significantly change the placement of the
mouthpiece you will many times have difficulty getting some notes to
speak. The theory is that the sound waves become out-of-phase because the
distance from the tip of the mouthpiece to the tone hole in question is
wrong. It has been my own experience that this is indeed the case.
