Well--it is good to have many clarinets for practice and special application.
An A is certainly a "must" for most of us starting any serious practice of
the clarinet literature (solo, chamber and orchestral). But if I may be so
bold as to offer a suggestion about your present Bb--I think the wisest purchas
e for a future music student (clarinet emphasis) would be the finest example
of the Bb soprano clarinet that you can obtain. Most of your work will be
done with this instrument--expecially in the early stages of your college
musical education. My priority (you asked for an opinion) would be for you
to make sure that your Bb soprano clarinet and mouthpiece (s) are the best and
most suitable for you that you can afford at the present time.
