Scott,

Have you tried comparing the pitch made by yourself and your Professor
when playing on just the mouthpiece ?
It is possible that your embouchure/mouth cavity/throat are causing a
higher pitch on the mouthpiece, hence the requirement to pull out.

I have a copy of an article on Saxophone intonation, which is based on
an article by Eugene Rousseau, in which he claims that there is an ideal
mouthpiece-only pitch for each of the saxophones, leading to better
intonation and hence centred tone.

Is anybody else on the list familiar with this theory - and has it been
applied to clarinet playing as well ? If so, what pithces should we be
aiming for ?

Bernie.
