For what it is worth--I play on a set of Selmer (Paris) RECITAL clarinets
with (usually) a Selmer C95-105 mouthpiece, the standard (for these clarinets)
barrel of 64,5mm, and a reed of my own make or a Glotin 3,5 (chamber music cut)
.
My son playes on a set of Selmer (Paris) RECITAL clarinets with (usually) a
Selmer C95-105 mouthpiece, the standard (for these clarinets) barrel of 64,5mm,

and of reed of his own make or a Glotin 3,5 (chamber cut) reed. He pulls out
a good deal more than I do--when we exchange instrument, mouthpiece and reed
(when we don't have a cold, etc.) He pulls out a good deal more than I do.

I think it is an "inside" job--your particular instrument and you may vary--
what result do others get with their set up and yours?

I think in Brymer's book CLARINET he describes such a situation with two
German or Austrian players.

Several years ago we had a guest recitalist here--Buffet R13--perhaps Portnoy
mouthpiece--he played his set-up on Bb with a 65mm barrel--if I were to use
that set up I would probably glow in the dark or bend the needle on the meter.

I have also known of several players of your type instrument who pull at the
middle joint on a regular basis.

Does anyone on the list recall reading an article by Tom Ridenour on pulling
at the mouthpiece for fine tuning? I am not making this up--I believe it was
Tom Ridenour and the article appeared in the Leblanc BELL.

Good morning to all-and good reeds to you.

Ron
