Subj: beginning tendinitis affecting conducting?
Date: Tue, 1 Mar 1994 22:45:31 -0500

Greetings all.

I had a rather interesting lesson today. Normally I have my right
hand bent back at the wrist a bit for playing contra. However, I've
discovered that keeping that same general position on soprano (yes
folks, I'm studying soprano clarinet this semester!) is quite painful.
So, I'll be getting a wrist brace/splint/whatever to help correct this
problem so it doesn't get any worse than it is. My concern is how
this will affect my conducting. My thumb and wrist got really sore
after practicing soprano for about 15 minutes last night. I rested a
bit and went to practice my conducting, when I noticed that my right
wrist was rather sore, and I couldn't be as expressive in my
conducting =( Any conductors out here that have also had this problem?
How does the use of a wrist brace affect your conducting?

--Andrea, Bb bass clarinetist extraordinaire!!!

Oh, and right now I'm experiencing a superb feeling. I step out into
the music libe, and I look at all the sophomores studying for their
first Alice (music history) test, and I can't help but laugh, because
THANK GOD I'M DONE!!!!!

Arf, I wish I could think of all this at once - I wanted to say to
y'all that know her that today (March 1) is Dr. Jo Ann Polley's
birthday. Happy b-day to a fine clarinetist, a super teacher, and an
all-around awesome person - love ya JP!
