Yes here I am a lowly undergraduate clarinet major, yet I would like to say
something here too.
What little knowledge I have of the background of the concerto tells me that
Anton Stadler, whom the concerto was written for, possessed what they call
a basset clarinet (in A I do believe but won't put money on it). Hence the
Low C "pedal note" at the end of the last movement in some editions. Obviously
we can't play this on a normal clarinet.
