Dear Becky,

I am in the process of becoming proficient on bass clarinet and
saxophone so that I can keep my options open as a professional musician. I
have been doing sort of a "study" of the bass clarinet. I just bought a
book of bass clarinet excerpts, and I'm putting together a book of articles
on bass clarinet taken from "the clarinet" magazine. As for words of
wisdom, let me ask you this---what is causing your anxiety? is it the
audition itself? the literature that needs to be played? if it is that
audition, than practice auditioning. Get some friends to judge a mock
audition for you (the criticism will help, too!). As for the literature,
try to get as many interpretations of each audition piece as you can. My
main point is identify what is causing your anxiety, then work from
there.

if you'd like to write back to me, my e-mail address is below. I
hope my comments have been helpful to you.

Best wishes,

Lindsay Williams, clarinetist
