If you think a foot in the bell for a low sax is something--you should see
what our bassoon professor can come up with for the low A in the bassoon
part at the end of the Nielsen Kvintet! Check the Read book on orchestrataion
he has several examples of extended range things. Stravinsky--forget the
piece needs a low D that is not there. Did you ever check out the Variations
2nd clrinet parts in the Schoenburg ?
