Here's some corroberation (sp?) of Jay's foot-in-the-bell technique. I was
rehersing with a local group that was performing "Bolero" and my old sax
teacher Bill Trimble was there to play the soprano sax solo. The tenor
player didn't show, and as Bill had his alto (for "Rhapsody in Blue") he
sight-transposed the tenor solo on alto. That worked fine (I certainly
wouldn't want to do that transposition, though!) until the last note - a
low A. Bill made a big show about rolling the alto over, planting his knee
in the bell and glissing down to the A - it was hilarious, but it did
work!
