Ron Monsen asks about people going to summer workshops.
I'll be going to the Humboldt Chamber Music Workshop
at Humboldt State U. in California for the 7th time.
I don't think this would be a good one for Ron, though.
The people there are mostly adult amateurs. Some of
them are quite good, but the level of playing isn't
up to the standards of someone who makes a living
performing and teaching their instrument. For those
of you who might still be interested, send me mail
and I'll tell you much more.

Re Clark Fobes: Does anyone have an idea whether he
could fix the flat low F on my A clarinet? My low E
through G are all flat, but the F is painfully so.
Might there be a bell modification or some such to
correct this?

Re baritone sax low A's: One advantage I haven't seen
yet is the sheer satisfaction of being able to blow
such a low and powerful note. I was subbing in the
pit for "Peter Pan" a couple of years ago on the bari
sax/bass clarinet book, and the conductor asked me to
be sure to play out at the opening of the second act,
which started on a low A. I shook the pit :-).

What are Selmer Mk VI bari saxes going for these days?
I got mine for $1900 in 1987. I was under the impression
that they're over $3000 now, but I heard that Best Music
in Oakland recently sold one for $2700.
