Hi I'm newish, a uni student (not studying music), who is definitely
amateur!!

Thanks everyone for the Cyrille Rose info, I'll have to find some
British publishers of the music you told me about.

I have had 5 clarinet teachers in 7 years, and one of them was very
up on breathing. He made me spend a whole terms lessons simply
learning how to breathe properly. None of my other clarinet friends
have been put through this type of coaching, but has improved the
amount of bars I can play in one breath. Basically, I had to walk
around a room for 20 mins, concentrating on where my breath was
coming from and how full my lungs were during a breath. It has done
me a bit of good, but I can definitely say that now my breathing is
something I do conciously and carefully when playing.
