In response to several inquiries, I went to get the details on the F Alto
Sax described in a previous post. It was made by Besson (the scrollwork
indicates in London) apparently in the early 1900s and is the "Mezzo"
model. It is silver-plated, and only goes to a low B as the bell isn't
long enough for a Bb. Interesting with all the discussion about alto saxes
with a low A.
The bad news is that it is the store owner's instrument and was in the case
for display purposes only - it's not for sale. He did speculate that,
though rare, F altos can be found once in a while and run around US$1500
when available. Does this price sound about right?
Sorry to those who were interested in purchasing the instrument.
