The Alto in F--was part of an intended "orchestral" family vs the "wind-
band" Eb-Bb series. They never took off--however, there is a quartet in
Chicago that plays standard quartet literature on the F-C family of saxos.
This statement is not RIGID--it is recalled from what I have read and from
what I have been told by my saxophone colleauges. After some of the things
I have recently read--CD liner notes--for example--I no longer feel too
comfortable about what I read. But I think the statement about the F-C
grouping is correct. What does the music store want for this F alto?
