There seems to be much pro and con about bore oiling of clarinets. I can
suggest reading some of the articles written by the late Robert Schmitt
of Ithaca College. He also wrote quite a wonderful book on clarinet
repair and maintenance published by Shall-u-Mo Press near Rochester, NY
(Paul Drushler). The oil--I think this has gone down before you joined
us--is not to be confused with key-oil, etc. The main things to consider
are the pads of the instrument. The last issue of THE CLARINET had some
rather direct and pointed comment on the oiling issue in CLARINALYSIS
a regular feature of the journal. Lee Gibson was the author.
