I assemble and disassemble my basset horn as little as I can--always
fearful of that array of keyworks and etc. But I do swab--I also feel
that by leaving the instrument together if the corks are properly lubricated
this helps preserve them. However, danger lurks with my soprano instruments
if left together in humid sticky weather. Many times--new instruments
especially swell and become very difficult to take apart.
