Subj: Karen Noel-Bentley's comment on the diaphragm
Date: Sat, 19 Feb 1994 03:37:11 -0500

Karen (whose note may have been sent only to me) suggests that
the lungs don't push the diaphrahm down, the reverse takes place;
i.e., when the diaphragm moves down, the lungs expand.

Karen you make me rethink the matter. I am getting closer and
closer to the opinion that it is all in the belly. When it goes
out, the diaphragm moves down, the lungs fill up. When the belly
goes in, the diaphragm moves up, the lungs expel air.

Anyone out there prepared to comment on which comes first: the chicken
or the egg, the lungs push the belly or the belly pushes the lungs?
