Regarding Michael's inquiry about unusual instruments, I have a
full Boehm B-flat and A pair that I have changed to allow them to
descend to either low E-flat (which is the standard on full-Boehm
instruments) or else to low D. The change is not permanent, it
cost about $25 and it works great. However, there are only
two pieces in the repertoire for which I can use the low D. And
when one has it, the low E-flat does not function.

For interested parties, yell. But you must have a full-Boehm
instrument to begin with. Alternatively, on plain Boehm instruments
the alteration will allow one to descend to low E-flat, but at the
expense of losing the low E.
