We have an ancient Buescher curved soprano here in our collection and it is
quite a good instrument. I have seen students here from time to time and
certainly at Northwestern with low A altos--a rarity I believe. I have also
seen straight altos--not very often and not real convenient. I also have in
my own collection an albert system curved soprano clarinet. It looks like a
baby bass--curved "neck" and upturned metal bell. Probably someone's idea of
the ideal marching instrument.
