So did she take an early retirement from Minsky's and
devote herself to the bassoon? If so, it's a small world... :^)

Has anyone read the novel "Confidences d'un joueur de clarinette"
by the collaborative French writers known as Erckmann-Chatrian?
I've intended to track down a copy. I've also learned that an English
translation was published in the 19th century under the title
"Confessions of a Clarionet Player").

I'd heard of this after looking into the clarinet works by Koechlin.
There are a number of pieces, some for unaccompanied clarinet, derived
from the score he composed for a film based on this novel, directed
by Rene Clair in the 1930s (I think).

Erckmann-Chatrian is/are best known for their novels set during
the Napoleonic wars. I think this story is one of them. They
also wrote the short novel that's the basis for Mascagni's opera
"L'amico Fritz".

So has anyone ever seen the novel or the film?
