Subj: performance question...(lip brace)
Date: Wed, 16 Feb 1994 16:39:01 -0500

Try electric tape. Use vinyl or plastic.

Cut about 1.5" and fold it in half so it sticks to itself.
Then fold it in half over your lower teeth. You can experiment
with multiple folds if that isn't thick enough.

This not only reduces teeth abrasion on the lower lip, but
seems to support the lip muscled, kinda like a knee brace does
for a basketball player. Its a nice feeling to get a bit of
suppport when your chops are shot.

I learned this trick playing in the All Ohio State Fair Band
when I was in high school. 8+ hours of rehearsal a day after
goofing off all summer. All the single reeds were using these
things after a day or two.

-->Well, got another question out there...
-->
-->Since I am now playing MUCH more per day then I sued to - being back at
school
-->and all - I find that my lower lip is suffering mightily from the pressure of
-->four to five hours a day of playing. I have never tried anything on my lower
-->teeth before, but I have heard people recommending them.
-->
-->What do you all think? If no, why not? If yes, WHAT? I don't want anything
-->really big or cumbersome. I didn't even use wax when I had braces, though I
-->seemed to be the only person in creation who wasn't.
-->
-->Any ideas?
