A few years ago, I took some "classical" sax lessons for the express
purpose of sounding like a sax player, as opposed to a clarinetist playing
sax. The main hurdle, not entirely overcome yet, was that of learning
vibrato and my teacher (plays with the San Francisco Symphony and San Jose
Symphony among many others) taught strictly lip vibrato. I don't know if
that was the only technique he uses, but if I could sound like him just
once on sax I could die happy.
