One of the finest clarinetists I have ever played with or listened to was
a post-doctoral student on fellowship in molecular biology--he earned his
living with bugs (or whatever they do) but he could have done it the other-
way if the breaks came along. A finalist in the recent met auditions had
been in the insurance (auto-mome life) for mayny years. Many of us on the list
have as great an interest in the clarinet, its players and literature than
anyone making his living with it --and some more time to enjoy his hobby.
I am trying to encourage my students to get into discussions on the list
to share their ideas, questions, opinions and yes--fears.
