Kate says that prior to Rose's time the clarinet was used
principally in military bands. Kate, I have no statistics
to support the matter but I think that that is probably
true today. In the U.S. there are probably 100 symphony
orchestras, give or take another 100. But there are military
and concert bands by the several hundreds at least.
