In regard to OCR software that allows you to scan a piece of music
and convert it to a MIDI file, in case anyone is interested:

Its called Midiscan and I ordered a copy of it today. What you do is
scan a piece of music, preferably using a full-page scanner, into a TIFF
file. Then, you use Midiscan to translate the TIFF file to a MIDI file
with a built-in editor that lets you make corrections, etc. My plan, once
I have the MIDI files, is to import into my Copyist Professional Desk
Top Publisher to do various transpositions, etc. and print final music.

You can contact Midiscan (for windows) at 1-800-676-8055. They'll send
you a brochure, if you like. If you purchase from them, it's $379 plus
$5 shipping. However, if you order it through an educational institution,
its $279. However, if you order if from Soundware in California, (talk to
Anthony at 1-800-333-4554) it's only $270 !!
