Just picking up on something Jay Heiser said;

Is there something innate within us that is attuned to vibrato? Is
vibrato common in non-Western music??

Yes, in Asian music, vibrato is very important, in the Pakistani and
Indian love ballads the women sing with what I can only describe as
very stretched vibrato. I think this is the case with all Arab based
music. It's different to Western vibrato, but I'd still describe it as
vibrato.
