I think negative reactions to clarinet vibrato are often caused by the way
some people play it. It seems that some people use it to compensate for
poor sound quality. I get that feeling when I hear more vibrato (i.e.
extremely wide or fast) than clarinet sound.

When vibrato is used to enhance a beautiful sound, as in Harold Wright's
playing, then I agree that is as valid on the clarinet as it is on other
instruments.
