Dan, I went to the Sunday afternoon performance at Flint Center.
You say,

I definitely saw the third clarinetist playing bass clarinet as
well as what I presumed was B-flat clarinet. I couldn't hear it,
unfortunately.

For those of you not in the San Jose area, this was "A Night at
the Movies" conducted by Bill Conti. The music, being pops movie
music, tended to be very brass-heavy, although there was a nifty
clarinet soli on "When the Saints Go Marching In" (which was part
of a march medley). Conti had some great stories to tell about
what it's like to conduct the Academy Awards pit orchestra.

Claudia (I'll stop drifting now)

P.S. Dan, thanks very much for the passed-along compliment.
It makes me want to go home right now and practice more!
