Subj: Dan Leeson's question seeking reactions to use of vibrato

Dan et al...

Vibrato seems to be the topic that evokes the most heated controversies...
players seem to hold the strongest of opinions on this matter. I'm not
sure why.

I personally find the judicious use of vibrato to be quite attractive.
I view it simply as another tool at the disposal of the player, to be used
just as one would use any other tool.

I heard several players speak who are vehemently opposed to its use...
often on the grounds that it is simply not appropriate. Now, why would
it be inappropriate? It simply is a technique used to create variety in
one's sound.

To those of you who oppose the use of vibrato--let's hear from you!
Give me a *REASON* other than personal preference as to why you are
opposed!
