Martin,

Thanks for the post script. The drawing makes it much clearer how this
works. It also suggests alternative approaches, such as having the rod
go from the thumb rest to a clamp on the front of a chair, rather than to
the chest. The basic idea of a rod to hold the instrument up at a proper
angle, and then a saxophone strap attached to the rod (rather than the
thumb rest) seems like a fruitful direction. I'll have to do some
experimentation. Wish I had access to some shop tools!
