I find it was wonderful that the French clarinet makers at this time in
history have produced within the last few years two totally differnet
concepts of the soprano clarinet from the physical point. I play on
Selmer RECITAL instruments--the outside diameter is about the same as my
basset horn. Along comes Buffet--right across the street from Selmer in
Mantes-la-Ville with a stripped down thin walled instrument. No metal rings
on the instrument. Lower register has extended tone holes because of the
thinness. I gues this is a good time to be a clarinetist.
