My favorites are definitely the Poulenc Sonata for two clarinets and
the duet by John McCabe (this has about ten movements, including a
raucous fortissimo opening movement, a bossa nova, a lovely slow
movement, and various fast and furious passages that alternate between
the two clarinets). For something a bit lighter, the duet by Alan
Frank is always good fun and goes down well with audiences.
While I'm talking about music for two clarinets, perhaps someone on
this list can help me with the following quest. I'm looking for the
piano part (or the orchestral original if this is a piano reduction)
for the piece by Ponchielli for two clarinets and piano on Colin
Bradbury's record "The Italian Clarinettist". Unfortunately I can't
remember the name of the piece at the moment. I came across the
clarinet parts in an old tutor book in the Edinburgh public library,
but there was no orchestral score or piano reduction. Does anyone
know of any way I could get hold of a piano part for it? I'd love to
play it but I'm not up to transcribing it by ear.
