Greetings: I was reading my mail and saw a discussion of Bb mechanisms.
If I may I can tell you that Selmer (Paris) had a throat mechanism on the
sopranos in the OMEGA series--usually the Centered Tone bore--also the
instruments came with a wrench and several replaceable speaker tubes. The
lh thumb ring was the operative for the extra throat Bb vent. Mechanical
problems and adjustment kept this from flying for very long. It has no
relationship to the Mazzeo in that it used a separate vent along with the
register hole to produce the result and not the existing side vent.

I had in my collection for a while a set of Herbert Wurlitzer instruments--
on loan and not mine. These also had a very similar Bb vent mechanism.
The closest we have now is that found on professional bass clarinets and some
basset horns. All except the Selmer basset horn if fact have this type of
Bb set up.

PS: Also many years ago I had a set of Fritz Wurlitzer sopranos that belonged
to George Weber (bass clarinet CSO). I did not buy them--much to my regret.
I believe that all of these instruments were willled to CSO by George's estate.
