Anne Vacca, you posted an interesting recital program.
I'm interested to see that you are including the
Schubert "Ave Maria". I remember in college surprising
people by playing songs like "Beautiful Dreamer" and
"Deep Purple" as encores to classical recitals.

For interpretive background, I'd suggest looking at
the original Sir Walter Scott text of the song
(and the German translation that inspired Schubert).
It has the praying character's rather dramatic interpolations to
the traditional text. A lot of editions of the music,
however, have been adapted for church use, and have shoehorned
the liturgical texts to the music after the fact.

Being aware of the context of this poem in Scott's novel
may affect the way you envision the music even when it's
to be performed without words.
