Welcome back! I look forward to the Ithaca commentary resuming. We have
had quite a week. -22 degrees and 11" of snow in the Bluegrass was enough
to make the national news.
Enough chit-chat. Have you been experiencing any clarinet problems so far
this winter? Several of my students here have been experiencing loose rings.
The problem of dehydration is not a serious here as it was when I was in
Wisconsin and Illinois. I do tell them all to keep humidity in the case-
a humidifier from the tobacconist's or the peels of a fresh orange, etc.
The cold air and the heating system in the buildings really take a toll on
equipment and reeds. I have been quite lucky using the Vandoren plastic
reed cases. They keep my reeds from drying out and help minimize the warp-
age.
Anyway!! Welcome back--I am sure we will do quite a bit of communicating
this semester. As you prepare for recitals let us know what works, etc.
Regards,
Dr. Ron Monsen-UKSOMLEXKY
