Well, our Christmas Festival is the annual Christmas worship
service/concert given by the 5 choirs and the symphony orch. of the
college. So it's definitely not a Leroy Anderson thing =) About the
A clarinet...the sound of my A clarinet is really warm, a bit of a
contrast to the sound of my bass, which makes a round sound but has
more of a bite to the sound. I'll be able to tell you more about it
after I've actually had a chance to play it in orchestra. Haven't had
to go to orch lately, 'cuz almost the entire wind section in orch. is
also in band, and we're getting ready to head out on a 2-week tour a
week from Saturday, and with the complex stuff we're playing, band
needs all the help we can get as a group! Hey, have you played
Holsinger's "In the Spring at the Time When Kings Go Off to War" (or
whatever the stinkin' title is =) ? One kickin' bass part! Although,
around m. 267, our director got together with the head of the church
music program here and did an editing job, adding the singing of the
hymn "Lead On O King Eternal" by 4 groups in sort of a round. Thing
is, those of us that have music written are to play instead, and oh
joy, the only ones playing are us mighty basses! So we sit on a
first-space written F for about 3-4 minutes! Then, if that isn't
enough, that F continues for another half a page when the rest of the
band resumes playing. Oh well, the 3rd movement of "La Fiesta
Mexicana", a.k.a. the Taco Song, Bb contra part, makes up for it.
Jeez, I've been babbling. Laterness!
