I, too, have been "lurking" in this list for a while. The main reason is
that I am new to this Internet thing and am not completely familiar with
how things work. I'm not even sure if this message will go where it
should, so if it does, I would be grateful if someone will confirm it for me.

I must say that I have enjoyed eavsdropping on your conversations. It
seems incredible to me that I can communicate with other clarinetists and
lovers of the clarinet from around the world!

If I may add one more opinion to the discussion on clarinet material, I
must say that I agree with Dan; I've heard some beautiful sounds come out
of plastic clarinets. It seems to me that the mouthpiece is more important
than the clarinet, because it affects the shape and direction of the air
going through the instrument. I guess this reasoning would suggest that
the clarinet player is most important, because the air originates in him/her.

Having said all this, I must say that I have never played better than I do
on my set of Leblanc Opuses. They make so many things easier (ex. tuning,
projection) that I can devote more energy to the music itself.

I look forward to "speaking" with everyone more (assuming that I have
figured out how to use this properly).

Karen
