Re the book of Jewish lists asserting that Wyatt Earp is buried in
Los Angeles. Baloney!!

Everytime someone with a western bent comes through here, I shlep them
up to Hills of Eternity cemetery and visit his grave. As regards the
three Jewish connections of Earp, I repeat again that the matter of him
being married to Josephine Marcus is uncertain. That she was his
common law wife is certain, but I am not a lawyer and do not know
what this means with respect to a lawful state of marriage. However,
it was when Earp died first, that Josephine decided to put him in the
Jewish cemetery and that is how he got there.

I should mention that although everyone says that Earp is buried in
San Francisco, that is a phrase that has little meaning today. Nobody
is buried in San Francisco. There are no cemeteries in SF (except at
the military installation of the Presidio). Colma, south of SF is
a city of one industry: Cemeteries. There are 4 Jewish cemeteries and
several non-sectarian ones where Jews are also buried. One of them is
the Hills of Eternity, and that is where Josephine Marcus and Wyatt Earp
lie side by side.

Earp is unusual because I often hear rumors that he is buried in
a Jewish cemetery in Wyoming or Nevada or Utah. Apparently the
Jewish cemetery part is general knowledge, but not the San Francisco
part (or I should say "Colma").
