This explains a great deal. I think the same culprit has been to the
Bluegrass as well. It is remarkarble that this "guy" can actually do
things to your pitch and reeds or note accuracy. However in the
Bluegrass we usually remain fully attired when out of doors.

You may find this somewhat contrary but my C clarinet actually plays
certain notes lower in pitch with the shorter barrel joint. I am not
trying to alter the laws of physics--that seems to be well done in
northern California by unknown forces. However, the interior dimensions
of this shorter barrel have the desired effect to lower the pitch.

How many groups really play 440? What is your experience with European
players? Especially Germany and Austria?
