If the bore is smaller the barrel length is less--most A clarinets are
smaller in bore than Bb. My own set of Selmer Recital Series has as a
standard length US barrel 64.5 mm. They also come with the 62.5 mm.
But there is more to it than just the barrel. The 10G was infact set up
for the continet (Europe?) on the London ICS display in 1984.

My current Selmer 10S-II (the latest soprano) has two barrels--the longer is
66.5 the shorter (higher) 64.5. The A soprano in this new series is not yet
in manuacture. I had a letter from France this morning and I should have on
to try soon. I am not sure of barrel length on the new A.

Severl years ago I was teaching for the British Woodwind Workshop in London.
There were 2 young ladies (UK citizens) who had recently returned from
Paris with new sets of RC bored prestige Buffets. They had them pulled out
all over and they still came up sharp. It is not just a matter of barrel
length on all instruments.

Ron Monsen UK-SOM
