For those you have asked for scientific information on what creates
clarinet sound, I came across the following while aimlessly wandering
through the search capabilities of our local library.

From The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America:

"The clarinet spectrum: theory and experiment" v. 83, Jan. '88, p. 292-304.

"Requirements and techniques for measuring the musical spectrum of the
clarinet" v. 78 Nov. '85, p. 1475-98.

"Calculation of the steady-state oscillations of a clarinet using the
harmonic balance technique" v. 86, July '89, p. 35-41.

"Nonlinear vibrations in the air column of a clarinet artificially blown"
v. 93, Jan. '93, p. 540-51.

And finally, "Good vibrations: musician-scientists probe the woodwind
reed" from Science News. v. 140, Dec. 14 '91, p. 392-4.

I know, all we really want to know is where does the air go in and
where does it come out...:)!
