In some recent email, the subject of double-tonguing on clarinet came up
and I thought that I'd expand it to the mailing list in general. I admit
to having a lead tongue - I get terrified when confronted with something
like Prokofiev's 1st, or Beethoven's 4th Symphony. I don't know the cause,
whether it's inherent or a function of my 5 minutes/week practice time
outside of rehersals (all you folks at college - just wait until YOU have
kids!).

In any case, I'm looking to improve this situation and would appreciate any
suggestions. Are there any good techniques for significantly improving my
single-tonguing? Do most people learn to double-tongue? Last question: I
remember reading a book about 10 years ago (by the clarinet prof at SW
Texas University <I think>) that detailed an innovative on-the-reed
double-tonguing technique in addition to discussing numerous other aspects
of clarinet playing. I know that this isn't much to go on, but does anyone
know the name of the book and where I could get a copy?
