It's funny you should mention clarinet cracks. My instrument has
cracked four times since I bought it used four years ago. It's not a thing I am
very proud of. But, this clarinet has cracked in the same place. I've
tried many things to get this crack from stop opening. The last thing I have tr
ied hasd kept the crack closed for over a year now.
When it first cracked, the repairman, said it could just be shaved down,
because it wasn't too deep. So that's what he did. Then, it cracked
again. So he put a metal band around it. That closed up the crack for about a
year. But living in Ithaca, where the climate is soooooo dry, the
crack just opened right back up. This time, the repairman put a rubber substanc
e in it to seal up the crack. But, when I went to North Carolina for a summe
r,
where it is extremely humid, the seal came right out. So, finally the repairman
there put crazy glue in the crack. The crack has been fine ever since. So,
I would personally do whatever it takes to keep your clarinet happy from crackin
g,
but crazy glue has worked the best for me.
