I am not sure I could agree more with Mr. Leeson's assessments!
Drucker's sound has made me, growing up in the very shadow of the NY
Philharmonic, cringe since the day I was old and aware enough to know
what my preferences are...(I have to give the man credit, though, he
NEVER misses a note...)
Robert Marcellus is my idol, it is his sound I aspire to emulate. My
teacher here studied with him, and the fact that we both have the same
concept of what I would like to sound like is helping things a lot!
Leister's sound, in my opinion, is a little "tubby" for my liking, but
I have to notice that it is this...hmm...vacuous? sound that orchestras
are looking for these days, and the clarinetists with "brighter" sounds
(like mine currently is) find their places in Military Bands. ( I don't
think the Band lot is such a bad deal, actually, but I do aspire to be
an orchestral player eventually.)
Again, these are just my opinions, I welcome all others!
:)
