In the early seventies Selmer (Paris) introduced the 10S soprano clarinet.
In the United States it was advertised as the clarinet for the American
Sound--not as dark as the German and not as light as the French. During
the years 1971 and 1972 I was a graduate student in London, England.
Gues what--the 10S was advertised there as the perfect vehicle for the
British clarinet sound--not as dark as the, etc. etc. I am not making this
up--check out ads in the various mags from that period of time. It was also
about this time that Buffet made big inroads in England--and many players
began changing over from the BH 1010 (.6" bore) to the Buffet. I remember
going to a reception hosted by the firm at the London headquarters

Pages' Walk-(Elephant & Castle on the tube). They are still there.
