Schubert: With the instruments of the day wouldn't the variations movement
sound better played on the C? It is unusual to find many works in C for
the contemporary Bb or A instrument. One other thought--Schubert did have
a clarinetist in mind when he wrote the Octet.

I realize this is just "clarinet-chat" but it is all I have time for now.
