Tom Ascher recently posted a message about mouthpiece dimensions
that contained one misleading aside, perhaps only a typing
error: In general, a longer facing will require a harder
reed, not softer one. As the facing length increases, the
lever arm against which the lower lip works also increases, so
the same force applied to the same reed on a longer facing
will close it more. If the reed is too soft, it may close
completely with normal embouchure pressure. This same reed
might be just right on a mouthpiece with a shorter facing.
Take another look at that Vandoren mouthpiece and reed chart
that you mentioned.
