It is refreshing to read of your activities at Ithaca. Yes, I have noticed tha
t the students at your school do seem to communicate well with each other and
the rest of the clarinet fraternity. I hope to get several of my students
active on the KLARINET list.

In March 1994 I hope to take several of my students over to Charlston, W VA
to hear Larry Combs perform the Copland Concerto with the Charlotston SO.
Combs is a native son of W Va.

You may be interested in knowing that we are having our first meeting of

the Central Kentucky Clarinet Society this Saturday. The International
Clarinet Association is quite interested in getting local and grass roots
organizations going. The flutists of this country seem to have many such
organizations at the local level. We hope to sponsor some workshops for
reeds (conditioning, adjusing, etc), a clarinet choir made up of area high
school players and others in this area. I have2 MDs as private students.
One is a retired chief of surgery here at UK. There are quite a few good
and very enthusiastic players on our faculty (not in the SOM). It is hoped
that this organization will be a place for them to keep up with their playing
and their obvious love of our instrument and its music.

I realize that this message is just clarinet chat--but I really do not have
any great issues to discuss at the present time.

Regards,

Ron Monsen, Prof of Clarinet UKSOMLEXKY
