I really prefer playing may A clarinets and do so often in practice and
warm ups. I am also very taken with the C soprano I have and will do just
about anything I can to play it. It has a most distinct character--firm and
alert. I purchased it to do a series of Schubert octet performances a number
of years ago. Did Schubert write it for C (the variations) because it was
easier? Did he have the C and its character in mind and is that why he
chose it? If my memory serves me correctly the dedicatee of the work was
Count von Troyer--an amatuer clarinettist. My C by the way plays very nicely
with the same mouthpiece I use on the Bb and A set-up.
